Motion Capture / Technical Animation – Final Year Project
Core Combat is a project showcasing a 2.5D fully Motion Capture animated fighting game character.
Two of the biggest focuses of this project were getting animations blending between each other seamlessly, as well as experimenting with cinematic animations.
Some of Unreal Engine 5’s new tools were very helpful throughout the process. The new control rig system let me create a control rig for the fingers. This control rig allowed me to edit the hands whenever I wanted.
This means a couple of things. The motion capture cleanup process became a lot faster and I was able to adjust the hands on the fly if I noticed something that didn’t look quite right.
Throughout this project I developed my skills in:
- Operating a Motion Capture studio.
- Directing actors.
- Motion capture cleanup in Motion Builder.
- Unreal Engine 5 control rig.
- Technical animation in Unreal Engine 5.
